Coast Chorale Artistic Director Produces Tribute to Congressional Medal of Honor Recipients
Allen Henson, Artistic Director for Coast Chorale in Bay St. Louis, MS was selected to produce a tribute song, commissioned by the Medal of Honor Society for its 2014 Medal of Honor Convention held in Knoxville, TN September 12, 2014.

Although students have seen the updated Murray State University athletics logo, many have never heard of the origins of the timeless “RacerM.” Joe Bosack and Co. created the updated and new logos; however, the classic Thoroughbred running through the “M” will still be present.

Youth Villages General Counsel/Director Kelly Carlson named to 'Top AV Rated Lawyers in Labor & Employment'
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Sept. 16, 2014) – Kelly Carlson, general counsel/director for Youth Villages, has been named to Martindale-Hubbell®’s list of ‘Top AV Rated Lawyers in Labor & Employment.’

MSU Alumna Named St. Louis 30 Under 30
MSU Alumna, Sara Meystedt was named one of the St. Louis 30 under 30 by the St. Louis Business Journal in July.  Her efforts in philanthropy set her apart from many of her colleagues.  Meystedt graduated from MSU with a B.A. in social work and an area in financial planning.  For more on her accomplishments read the full article by the St. Louis Business Journal.

Murray State Alumna Awarded Prestigious Teacher Leader Fellowship
September 3, 2014 – (Washington, DC) – Hope Street Group has announced that Robin Thacker, a High School Chemistry and AP Biology teacher in Henderson, Kentucky will join its 2014­–2015 cohort of Hope Street Group Kentucky State Teacher Fellows. She will join four other exemplary educators representing schools from the Whitley, Scott, Henderson, and Fayette counties. These five new fellows will work alongside 16 other teachers who embarked on the fellowship last August.

Madisonville-Hopkins County Chamber President Appointed to U.S. Chamber Committee
MADISONVILLE, Ky. – Lee S. Lingo, President of the Madisonville-Hopkins County Chamber of 
Commerce, has accepted an invitation to serve as a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s 
Transportation, Infrastructure, and Logistics Committee for the 2014-2015 year.

MSU alumnae named Looney-Benin Community College Instructor of the Year
Dr. Karen Hill Johnson, communication instructor at West Kentucky Community and Technical College, was named the Looney-Benin Community College Instructor of the Year by the Kentucky Communication Association (KCA) on September 27, 2014. Johnson graduated from Murray State University in 2002 (BS in Organizational Communication) and '04 (MS in Organizational Communication) and from Trevecca Nazarene University in 2012 with an Ed.D. in Leadership.

Kentucky Lawyers Asistance Program director Yvette Hourigan garners national award for efforts to combat depression and suicide
Lexington attorney Yvette Hourigan received the Dave Nee Foundation’s national David S. Stoner Uncommon Counselor Award on Saturday, October 11, for her efforts educating the legal community in combatting depression and suicide through her work as director of the Kentucky Lawyers Assistance Program (KYLAP).

Strategic Planning Initiative underway
Dr. Bob Davies officially launched the strategic planning initiative this week at a Town Hall meeting on Monday, Oct. 10th in Freed Curd Auditorium.

Dr. Bob Davies and family make $117,000 gift to university
Murray State University president, Dr. Bob Davies, along with his wife, Cindy, and their daughter, Katie, made a $117,000 gift to support student scholarships, academic enhancements and other student needs at Murray State. Upon his arrival in July, Dr. Davies was researching the university’s history and learned that university founder, Dr. Rainey T. Wells, raised nearly $117,000 to provide the seed funds to found the university in 1922.

MSU Extends U.S. News Rankings Streak to 24th Consecutive Year
MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State University (MSU) has taken its top rankings streak into its 24th consecutive year of being recognized by U.S.News & World Report’s Best Colleges as one of the top schools in the country. The 2015 rankings have just been released and Murray State is in ninth place among the top public regional universities in the South.

MSU School of Nursing 1 of 100 singled out for Special Program
MURRAY, Ky. — The Arnold P. Gold Foundation (APGF) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) announced that 100 schools of nursing were selected to receive funding support to pilot White Coat Ceremonies, which are designed to instill a commitment to providing compassionate care among future health professionals. Murray State University is one of those schools.

Top Academic Leadership Consultant Working with CoEHS
The college of education and human services at Murray State University is working with Dr. Walter Gmelch, noted expert on leadership in higher education and change processes, to navigate the transition process and develop a plan to ease faculty and staff through the blending of units in the college. The college of education merged this summer with the community leadership and human services department and the Center for Communication Disorders. The blending of these units became official on July 1; the college name was changed from the college of education to the college of education and human services (CoEHS).
