Four Murray State University graduates have been named 2016 Distinguished Alumni by the Murray State Alumni Association. David Beck, ’77; Bill Cunningham, ’66; Janice Padgett Harper-Smith, ‘63, ’68; and Dennis Jackson, ‘66, ‘71 will receive their awards at the Distinguished Alumni Dinner on Friday, April 15.

Murray State alumna part of winning team at national Moot Court competition
Murray State University alumna Kellie Money was part of a three-student team that won the 40th annual Robert F. Wagner National Labor and Employment Law Moot Court competition in March 2016.

MSU alumnus makes appearance on Chicago Med
When Murray State University graduate Matthew Collins moved to Chicago, he had one goal, to stay consistently employed – no small task as an aspiring actor. So far, the capstone of his career is an appearance on NBC’s new hit drama, “Chicago Med” in February 2016.

Hill awarded “2016 College and University Teacher of the Year”
Dr. Todd Edwin Hill, Director of Jazz Studies and Associate Professor of Music at Murray State University, has been awarded “2016 College and University Teacher of the Year” by the Kentucky Music Educators Association. The award will officially be presented at this February’s KMEA Conference in Louisville. Dr. Hill has been nominated for the award by the KMEA First District music educators four of the past nine years. 

Murray State Alumna appointed to Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board
Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed Sarah Thompson to the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (KEPSB). Thompson has been an active member of the Kentucky Education Association since 2008.
 

Memories of Change from the 50s & 60s- Grant’s Story

Ilah Grant fondly recalls her time at MSU during the 1950s and 1960s, during the integration of MSU’s campus. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the integration of black students on MSU’s campus. During the summer of 1955 the first black student, Mary Ford Holland, was enrolled in MSU campus and in the fall of 1961,


Celebrating 60 Years of Integration: Tyler Demarta's Story

Although many have heard of Mary Ford Holland, the first black student enrolled on MSU’s campus, Nancy Tyler Demartra was the first black graduate at MSU. Demartra graduated May 29, 1961.


MSU Alumni Association and Retriever Consulting create partnership
The Murray State University Alumni Association recently partnered with Retriever Consulting Inc. The company provides merchant services at a fraction of the cost of other providers, and 20 percent of its profits will be donated to the MSU Alumni Association.
