The Murray State University Alumni Association recently announced Col Lucreita McClenney, Kristie Helms and Sonja Martinez will speak at the ninth annual Global Alumni Lecture Series. The Global Alumni Lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Curris Center Theater on November 19.

Rutland receives the Alumni Achievement Award 2014 from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University
On October 9, 2014 James "Steve" Rutland of Enterprise, Alabama was presented the Alumni Achievement Award 2014 for Embry Riddle Aeronautical University at the Daytona Beach Campus in Florida.  Selection for this award is based on exceptional commitment to the aviation and aerospace industry through personal and professional success.

Coast Chorale Artistic Director Produces Tribute to Congressional Medal of Honor Recipients
Allen Henson, Artistic Director for Coast Chorale in Bay St. Louis, MS was selected to produce a tribute song, commissioned by the Medal of Honor Society for its 2014 Medal of Honor Convention held in Knoxville, TN September 12, 2014.

MSU alumnae named Looney-Benin Community College Instructor of the Year
Dr. Karen Hill Johnson, communication instructor at West Kentucky Community and Technical College, was named the Looney-Benin Community College Instructor of the Year by the Kentucky Communication Association (KCA) on September 27, 2014. Johnson graduated from Murray State University in 2002 (BS in Organizational Communication) and '04 (MS in Organizational Communication) and from Trevecca Nazarene University in 2012 with an Ed.D. in Leadership.
 

Kentucky Lawyers Asistance Program director Yvette Hourigan garners national award for efforts to combat depression and suicide
Lexington attorney Yvette Hourigan received the Dave Nee Foundation’s national David S. Stoner Uncommon Counselor Award on Saturday, October 11, for her efforts educating the legal community in combatting depression and suicide through her work as director of the Kentucky Lawyers Assistance Program (KYLAP).

MSU graduates Lana Garner Porter and Dr. Michael Porter to fund open access initiative
Murray State University alumni Lana Garner Porter and her husband, Dr. Michael Porter, will donate $30,000 to the University Libraries to create an endowment fund to support the development of an Open Access Repository through the MSU libraries. The Porters — Lana holds the B.S. (1965) and M.A.T. (1972) degrees and Michael earned a B.S. (1964) and an M.S. (1969) from Murray State — are long-time generous supporters of the university. This latest gift is just one of many the university has received through Lana and Michael Porter.

Strategic Planning Initiative underway
Dr. Bob Davies officially launched the strategic planning initiative this week at a Town Hall meeting on Monday, Oct. 10th in Freed Curd Auditorium.

Dr. Bob Davies and family make $117,000 gift to university
Murray State University president, Dr. Bob Davies, along with his wife, Cindy, and their daughter, Katie, made a $117,000 gift to support student scholarships, academic enhancements and other student needs at Murray State. Upon his arrival in July, Dr. Davies was researching the university’s history and learned that university founder, Dr. Rainey T. Wells, raised nearly $117,000 to provide the seed funds to found the university in 1922.
