Murray State University’s Program of Distinction in Telecommunications Systems Management (TSM) will host the annual AT&T Women in Telecom Golf Day on Sept. 11. Held at Murray State’s Miller Memorial Golf Course, this event was developed specifically for women in the telecom industry.

For the first time in five years, the Department of Music at Murray State University plans to offer “A Celebration of Music,” a free pops concert featuring a wide variety of student ensembles.  The concert is scheduled for Thursday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m. at  Paducah's beautiful Carson Four Rivers Center with a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Miller Recognized by National Safety Council as Rising Star of Safety
PASADENA, CA (August 28, 2014) – Parsons is pleased to announce that Anthony J. Miller, Vice President of Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) for both its environment and infrastructure business unit and its construction group, has been recognized as part of the 2014 Class of the National Safety Council’s (NSC’s) Rising Stars of Safety.

PCSD teacher elected for national organization
Wanda Taylor was a state champion cross-country runner in high school who received an athletic scholarship to Murray State University in Kentucky. Unfortunately, while studying for her Bachelor of Science in physical education and health, she was in a car accident that ended her running career. Taylor says the experience made her a better teacher, which is one reason she was recently named President-Elect of the Southwest District of the Society of Health and Physical Educators, or SHAPE America.

Alumni Song Release

Murray State Alumni Zach Harris performed at Si Roberton’s (of Duck Dynasty) vow renewal and reception) in West Monroe, Louisiana on May 3.  Harris wrote and sang the single Faith, Hope and Love that is set for release on Si’s wedding album Si Robertson: Me and My Smoking Hot Honey, available for download on the iTunes store starting May 13, 2014.


Homecoming Shirt Design By Alumnus

The Homecoming 2014 t-shirt design has been selected by public vote.  Alumnus Michael Buckingham submitted the winning design.  He and his wife graduated in 1977 and Buckingham explains, they truly are “Racers Across America” because of their experiences moving with his wife’s wonderful career in the U.S. Army.  


MSU Alumna Named St. Louis 30 Under 30
MSU Alumna, Sara Meystedt was named one of the St. Louis 30 under 30 by the St. Louis Business Journal in July.  Her efforts in philanthropy set her apart from many of her colleagues.  Meystedt graduated from MSU with a B.A. in social work and an area in financial planning.  For more on her accomplishments read the full article by the St. Louis Business Journal.

The college of education and human services at Murray State University is working with Dr. Walter Gmelch, noted expert on leadership in higher education and change processes, to navigate the transition process and develop a plan to ease faculty and staff through the blending of units in the college. The college of education merged this summer with the community leadership and human services department and the Center for Communication Disorders. The blending of these units became official on July 1; the college name was changed from the college of education to the college of education and human services (CoEHS).
