Reunions
Welcome to the 1960 Class Page!
The 1960 class returned for a Golden Reunion
Fifty years have passed since the “Beehive” and “Flat top” were the popular hair styles of the day and the “Hut” was the most popular hang-out on campus. The Murray State University graduating class of 1960 remembered all of these historic events and many more as they reminisced about their college days at the Golden Years Class Reunion Thursday May 6 through Saturday May 8, 2010.
The Class of 1960 brought along a few friends from the 1959 and 1961 classes to reacquaint with the places they knew during their college years. On Thursday, those who attended the reunion mixed and mingled at a barbeque at the President's house, Oakhurst. On Friday, attendees had more time to catch-up with their classmates at the Easley Alumni Center where coffee and breakfast items were served.
Many of the members of the class traveled around campus on University buses to see the changes that have taken place since they called Murray home. A stop on their tour took them to Wrather Museum where they were able to visit one of the oldest buildings on campus and walk through the numerous historical exhibits at the museum. The class was amazed to see the additions to campus such as the campus farms, the arboretum and the new residential colleges.
The 1960 Class attended a luncheon in the Murray Room of the Regional Special Events Center where President Dunn presented the Emeritus Club Certificates. Guest speaker Alma Atwood Ashby Owens also presented a walk down memory lane that included a few of the most memorable people on campus in the 1950's and 1960.
On Friday night, members of the 1960 Class were invited to a VIP Reception in their honor at Pogue Library where attendees were able to meet the newest members of the Alumni Association and university faculty and staff.
Members of the 1960 Class enjoyed breakfast at the Easley Alumni Center before being honored at the 2010 Murray State University Commencement Ceremony on Saturday where they were able to walk down the aisle with current graduates and were introduced by MSU President Dr. Randy Dunn.
The Class departed from their classmates at the Easley Alumni Center after a long week of remembering, re-living and re-connecting with their prized alma mater.
