Despite the cold and rainy weather, thousands of people came out to enjoy the MSU Homecoming activities on October 9 and 10. From reunions to the parade, tent city and the game, many had a chance to catch up with old friends and colleagues and reminisce about their days at MSU. The crowd spanned several generations of past Racers who had the opportunity to meet current students and cheer on the Racers for one more game.
Friday’s events included the start of the MSU Sixties Generation News Reunion, the Arboretum Kick-Off Celebration showcasing the first part of the gardens with a planting of a new tree and the 28th Annual 5K Run through campus. The evening wrapped up with the “Come Back to the Farm” cookout at Pullen Farm and the Biology Alumni Dinner where Dr. Tom Logan was awarded the Distinguished Biology Alumni Award.
Saturday kicked off with the annual parade from Main Street to Campus showcasing organizations and groups from campus along with local businesses. Hundreds of people lined the streets to watch all the floats, cars and groups walk by. Afterwards, everyone made their way towards Stewart Stadium for Tent City. With over 50 tents at this year’s Tent City, everyone had plenty to do after the parade. Greeks gathered under tents to catch up with alum and cheer on the MSU Racers as they started the game. People walked through and found exotic foods and great Murray Barbeque along with other treats. Some people even had a chance to pie their professor or Dean in the face. President Dunn and family even walked through and Dr. Dunn found a chance to jump on stage and join the band. Tent City also included a live Video Stream where several guests were interviewed about their favorite things at Homecoming and other projects they were working on at MSU. Guests included alumni like the Grand Marshall Bill Morgan, staff such as Dr. Steve Cobb, Dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, students like the 2008 Homecoming King and Queen, and Dr. Dunn himself.
