Shroat Gift Provides New Stage In Johnson Theatre and Theatre Scholarships
Murray State University will soon have a new stage in the Johnson Theatre. Alumni Jerry and Betsy Shroat of Union, KY., have made a gift of $120,000 to the Department of Theatre which will be used to remove and replace the 38 year-old stage as well as establish a scholarship for an incoming-freshman majoring in Theatre. In addition, the Shroats have made a planned gift of $200,000 in support of future Murray State University endeavors.
Weems Scholarship Established for MSU CSET Students
Murray State University students in the college of science, engineering and technology will benefit greatly from the Thomas N. and Marjorie J. Weems Scholarship, recently established through a generous bequest gift in the amount of $320,598 from the late Dr. Thomas Weems and his late wife Marjorie, both of New Mexico.
Paul Reed Smith donates to WKMS
Paducah native, Paul Reed Smith’s interest in public radio and in honor of his education at St. Mary’s School System in Paducah, led him to donate a substantial gift to WKMS. His lifelong love of public radio and his strong belief in education caused him to pull those two loves together.

MSU receives major gift for new university farm
The school of agriculture at Murray State University will have a new addition in the near future thanks to a generous donation by alumnus Bill Garrett ’49 of Winter Haven, Fla. Garrett recently donated commercial property in Eufaula, Ala., that appraised for more than $670,000.
MSU Holds Dedication for David and Ashley Dill Distinguished Professorship
Murray State celebrated the new David and Ashley Dill Distinguished Professorship of Accounting this November, established by Alumnus David Dill. Dill is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of LifePoint Hosptials based out of Nashville. The reception and dinner at Pogue Library included Dill’s wife, Ashley, children, Evanne and Watson, and parents Mike and Marilyn Dill. MSU President, Dr. Randy Dunn thanked the couple for their commitment to MSU. Chair of Accounting, Dr. Don Chamberlain explained what the professorship meant to the department and announced that the search to fill the professorship position has already begun.
MSU Alumni Dr. Charles and Marlene Johnson donate a "Gift of Music" to MSU
On October 27, 2009 at 8pm, Murray State University honored Dr. Charles Johnson '56 and Mrs. Marlene Rann Johnson '57 for their generosity to the MSU Department of Music. The community was invited to the dedication and free concert.
