MSU Holds Dedication for David and Ashley Dill Distinguished Professorship

Murray State celebrated the new David and Ashley Dill Distinguished Professorship of Accounting this November, established by Alumnus David Dill. Dill is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of LifePoint Hosptials based out of Nashville. The reception and dinner at Pogue Library included Dill’s wife, Ashley, children, Evanne and Watson, and parents Mike and Marilyn Dill. MSU President, Dr. Randy Dunn thanked the couple for their commitment to MSU. Chair of Accounting, Dr. Don Chamberlain explained what the professorship meant to the department and announced that the search to fill the professorship position has already begun.

Dill spoke to the crowd, which included MSU accounting alumni, MSU faculty and staff, and honors accounting students, stressing the importance of giving back to the university. Dill noted it was important for his children and other generations to see him giving back in hopes that in the future they will want to do the same. Addressing the accounting students, Dill said that he hoped to be at a similar event 20 years from now to honor one of them. At the end of the dedication, Dr. Dunn presented Dill as a “Faculty Fellow” of Accounting. The prestigious title has only been given to six others in the history of MSU.

Dill is heavily involved with the accounting department’s E3 Campaign, started in early fall 2009. The E3 Campaign is a $2.5 million plan that underlines three initiatives created to “take the accounting department to another level,” as Dill explained. The initiatives are to expand the number of students in the department, to enhance their learning experiences at MSU and to equip graduates for entering the workforce. Dill was instrumental in assembling an executive committee for the E3 initiative including David Alexander and Mike Hamilton of Ernst and Young, Mike Cain from Lattimore, Black, Morgan & Cain, Art Fields of Crescent Resources and Dan Duncan from Deloitte & Touche.
